I’m pushing 30 years old. I admit, I’m still a few years away, but regardless, the big 3-0 is on the horizon…and it’s a tad horrifying.
Truth be told: 30 is the new 20; 40 is the new 30; and 50 is the new 40, but those soothing sentences are often effective accompanied by a little “extra” TLC and assistance.
That’s where Dr. Marc Malek comes in. The Scottsdale plastic surgeon has been in the biz many years and stays on top of the latest trends and treatments when it comes to beautifying procedures.

I asked Dr. Malek to breakdown the surgical must-dos for 2013, in the categories of face, breast, body, and non-invasive. According to the esteemed doctor, the following consists of the latest fads for the new year.
1. Your Face
Surely, Dr. Malek says facial procedures are focused on rejuvenating appearance and youth. For women, he says the area of concentration is usually around the eyes. When the shape and position of the eyelids and eyebrows are low or redundant, fatigue, sadness, and stress tend to be more evident. That’s why he suggests the following:
a) Age 30-45
-brow lift: elevates and reshapes the eyebrows and temples
-upper eyelid surgery: removes extra skin
-laser resurfacing: smooths and tightens the skin
b) Age 45 -55
-brow lift: elevates and reshapes the eyebrows and temples
-mid face lift: restores volume to the cheeks, elevates down-turned corners of the mouth, softens early jowls
-laser resurfacing: smoothes and tightens the skin
c) Age 55+
-brow lift: elevates and reshapes the eyebrows and temples
-upper eyelid surgery: removes extra skin
-full face/mid face/neck lift
2. Your breasts
Dr. Malek says 2013 is all about looking natural; however, sometimes your breasts need a little lift or enhancement. He breaks down the three basic breast surgeries below:
a) If you have smaller breasts…tastefully chose an implant for enhancement. This will improve cleavage and the upper pole of the breast.
b) If you have loose breast…remove extra skin to elevate the breast and nipple to a more youthful position. Dr. Malek says a small implant may be required to replenish volume in the upper portion of the breast.
c) If you have large breasts…opt for an internal suspension lift with partial reduction for elevation and contouring. This separates and fixates the breast components to the muscle; it also reduces the overall size of the breast by removing excess tissue.
3. Your body
Dr. Malek says trendy body procedures are all about contouring and improving proportions. Here’s what’s trending for 2013:
a) Liposculpting/Liposuction: works by removing excess fat tissue, which reshapes body contours and creates a slimmer appearance. Dr. Malek specializes in lipo for the abdomen, hips, flanks, back, thighs, knees, and ankles.
b) Abdominoplasty: (a.k.a. tummy tuck) …this is for patients with loose skin, fat, and lack of muscle. -Removes a horizontal panel of skin and fat from the naval to the pubis
-Reconstructs stretched abdominal muscles from pregnancy or weight shift
-Smoothes and thins redundant tissue above the pubis
-Recreates a small naval with smoother skin surrounding it
-Removes all stretch marks located below naval
4. Non-invasive procedures
This is the big anti-aging remedy! Dr. Malek says non-invasive procedures are H-O-T for 2013; it takes less time for treatment and recovery!
a) Injectables
-Botulinum toxin (Botox, Dysport): removes wrinkles caused by muscles of facial expression
-Hyaluronic acid fillers (Restylane, Perlane, Juvederm): plumps depression areas around the smile lines of the mouth, enhances lip shape, and fills depressed scars.
-Long term fillers (Artefill, Sculptra): longer-lasting products that recruits your own body’s deposits of collagen and soft tissue products
b) Laser
-IPL: laser hair removal
-Foto-facial: removes pigment and blends color, reverses sun damage, and decreases signs of rosacea
-Fractional laser: tightens and rejuvenates skin with no surgical downtime
