I feel very lucky to be having my first child in 2013. There was a time, if you can imagine, when baby bouncers didn’t exist, when infant carriers weren’t comfortable, and when high chairs didn’t come contemporary. To my dear yet-to-be-born Baby Bubeck, your mama’s done her due diligence in finding you the best products on the market.
Of course the majority of expecting moms have heard of BabyBjörn. Whether or not you’re familiar with the brand, our motherly gut instinctively trusts BabyBjörn, considering it’s one of the most popular baby swag manufactures in the world. (FYI, the brand’s products are distributed among 50+ worldwide countries.)
Because I’m an O.C.D. online researcher, I turned to Google desperately seeking the top brands featuring highly rated baby stuff. Time and time again, BabyBjörn products popped up.
Sure, I registered for the BabyBjörn carrier; it just seemed right when perusing Babies “R” Us…my new Nordstrom. However, I came to discover the brand carries quite a reputable selection of safe, sturdy, and stylish items.
Before I divulge my top two BabyBjörn picks, a little background about the Swedish company.
It all started with a baby bouncer…
During a trip to the USA in the beginning of the 1960s, Björn Jakobson found that bouncers were a necessary must-have. At the time, bouncers weren’t being sold in Sweden, so Björn brought one back from the US for his infant nephew. Turns out, the bouncer was a hit.
That’s when Jakobson decided to create a Swedish equivalent, and in due time, his bouncer’s popularity began to spread. It also took the market by storm in Europe and the United States.
And so began the start of the BabyBjörn company in 1961, founded by Björn Jakobson.
Following the bouncer, came production of the carrier. BabyBjörn’s first carrier hit store shelves in 1973. To this day, a number of hospitals still recommend the product.
Over 50 years later, BabyBjörn is thriving.
My sweet Baby Bubeck to-be is already a proud owner of two BabyBjörn products; my two picks when it comes to shopping the brand.
And the first is my baby’s future haven of cozy comfort: the new Bouncer Balance Soft.
First, I like this bouncer because it’s not new to BabyBjörn; as you now know, babies have been bouncing via BabyBjörn for years. I know the design and details have evolved, and I like how it aids in baby’s development.
Rather than running on batteries, the bouncer runs on playfulness. Babies rock by his or her own movements, giving them the opportunity to improve their natural balance and motor skills. It’s safe, considering baby has proper head and back support, and it has a fitted fabric seat that moulds itself to baby’s body and distributes your baby’s weight evenly. (FYI, this is particularly important for very young babies whose muscles are not yet fully developed.) And because I prefer both trendy and functional, I like this bouncer because it looks cool. It’s simple, it’s modern, and it’s not overdone with frill like some other bouncers on the market.
Tip: I highly recommend purchasing the wooden toy that accompanies the bouncer. It encourages play without being too invasive, and it attaches securely; fastening easily. Plus, it looks kinda old school and traditional. There’s just something homey about it.
My next BabyBjörn pick also awaiting Baby Bubeck’s arrival is the brand’s high chair. Why? Because it’s totally chic…and it’s safe, functional, and strategically designed.
If you prefer modern, this chair is perfect for mealtime. The secure high chair features a safety harness and lockable safety table that keeps your child firmly—but comfortably—in place. The chair’s ergonomic and encircling design showcases a curved backrest, aiding your baby to learn and perfect and upright position. Food can’t collect in the tray’s nooks and crannies because there aren’t any. The clean, smooth-surfaced, detachable tray is convenient and dishwasher safe. Plus, the entire concoction is space-saving, measuring just 10 inches when folded.
I got the all-white model with black lining, but it also comes in red.
